Evaluation of my dance music magazine

What kind of media institution might distribute you media product and why?
I think Development hell may distribute my magazine, because it distributes the magazine "mixmag" which is also a dance music magazine that features similar musicians, yet my magazine would target a variety of ages, whereas "mixmag" target a young audience only.

Double page spread feedback

- Alice Roe This is really good soph! Very informative and bright. Im not to sure on the colour orange though? i think maybe white would look better?

- Jake Trumper I like the layout of the page, but it's a bit too colorful and the writing on the bottom of the photo needs to be changed so it can be read easier. Other than that the pictures are good.

Contents page feedback

Emma Barnett I really like the title bit and the general layout :D but Im not really sure on the green and pink...? I dunno. Other than that, it looks good :)

Jack Carter I would say everything is fine here except the colour scheme isn't the best and contrasts a bit (the pink is hard to read with the green background) :)

Front cover feedback

Emma Barnett First of all, I really love the layout and the background. The use of the DJ and the colours and the patterns go very well together :) Perhaps you might want to add some incentives on the cover like "See up and coming artists" or "free downloads" like little music-orientated, sub headings that will make your demographic want to buy the product more.

Jack Carter I think maybe you should have some more interesting shaped boxes for the text like circles or cloud shaped or whatever :D and maybe have a consistent colour scheme for the boxes? :) Oh, and some pictures to accompany the sub-headings might be an idea too but otherwise very good :D

Alice Roe i agree with emma, the layout is perfect! Only thing i would say is to maybe brighten the titles up a bit or use a more funky and bolder look?

Photo shoot

The majority of my pictures I have taken are of Steve, while he was setting up for a club event. I took these pictures then edited them using photo shop to make them more bright and eye catching. I also took pictures of my friends outside and inside a club for my contents page to relate to the content. The one picture I did not take myself is the picture above, which is Steve's logo. I am using this for the double page spread.

I first created my template as a double page spread and on the left page added the main image which is going to be an image of DJ Steve and this is going to take up the whole of the page. The mast head and quote will be positioned on top of the image. I did this to instantly attract the audience.

I then added three boxed for different images that will relate to DJ Steve and show his logo.

The text is going to fill the rest of the page in two columns to make it easier and more attractive to read.

Survey results

Survey results

I produced a survey to find out what my target audience expect from my dance music magazine. I found that the most popular name for my masthead was "Live Beat" so I plan to use that name. I am also going to use the colour scheme Purple/orange/black as this was the most popular choice. A lot of the ideas for content and images were popular. The two most popular ideas for my double page spread are an interview with a DJ and real life stories about festivals. I intend to take this information and apply it to my magazine.

I first added the mast head that will be the name of the magazine with the same position and font as on the front cover. I decided to do this to give it house style. I positioned "contents.." bellow the mast head in a different font to introduce the page.

I then added a box for an image to go below the masthead and i gave the "contents" a background to draw attention to it

I next positioned the content on the right hand side and highlighted the text pink to draw attention to it and attract the young audience.

I then added another box for an image and a box for the web address for the magazine.

The process of creating my front cover mock up

I first made a box for my central image.

I then added the mast head and positioned it at the top center of the page as most magazines do this to draw attention to it. I used a font which I think would suit a dance music magazine as it is large and eye catching. I also slanted the mast head slightly to give it edge.

I added my cover lines and main cover line. My main cover line is a different font to the others and it is positioned under the masthead; this will draw the eye to it. the other cover lines are spread out around the page so the audience will read each one.

To finish off I added a date line and the box for a bar code
